Founded by veteran percussionist Nelson Ortiz and keyboardistlcomposer Mark Riddle, the name Yavaz is derived from the Spanish term "Ya Vas" which loosely translates to, "You're On!"

Yavaz debuted in 1993 and has been breaking new ground with their unique sound. The band performs an exciting repertoire of Brazilian jazz standards and Latin favorites spiced with original material from their "Sea of Cortez" CD. Yavaz's style of Latin music appeals to everyone from six to sixty. Their combination of sambas, fusion, salsa and classic jazz makes Yavaz uniquely suited to perform in a variety of venues from soft dinner music atmospheres to dance-til-dawn salsa all with a South American-Latin flavor.
